Origins and Processes

Founded in 2013, Carbon emerged as a disruptor in the 3D printing space. With the additive manufacturing is set to be worth over $80 billion by 2030, Carbon is uniquely positioned in the sector. Its mission is bold: to transform design, engineering and manufacturing processes, with the goal of enabling mass production with the agility of digital fabrication.

Carbon’s novel technology, Digital Light Synthesis™ (DLS), uses light and oxygen to rapidly produce high-performance polymer parts. Carbon’s DLS technology sets it apart from conventional 3D printing methods like Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) or Selective Laser Sintering (SLS). DLS works through three processes. Continuous printing uses a light engine to project UV images through an oxygen-permeable window, curing resin layer by layer. Programmable resins engineers Carbon’s materials for strength, flexibility, and biocompatibility. Lastly, cloud-connected platform enables real-time updates and predictive analytics to optimise performance and scalability. Thanks to the combination of these three, Carbon can produce parts that rival traditional manufacturing processes in quality, affordability and turnaround times.

Partnerships and Growth

According to market forecasts, the carbon fibre 3D printer market is projected to grow to $4.5 billion by 2033. Carbon has operations in North America, Europe, and Asia, with a strong presence in automotive, healthcare, consumer goods, and aerospace. The 3D printing company has partnerships with industry giants such as Adidas, Ford, Johnson & Johnson, and Lamborghini. Carbon’s collaboration with Adidas led to the creation of the Futurecraft 4D shoe midsole, a significant landmark in mass-customised footwear. Additionally, Carbon’s platform supports sustainable design. Its resins are increasingly bio-based and recyclable, reducing material waste and enabling lightweight, durable parts. The company also invests heavily in research and development in material science, AI-driven design, and digital manufacturing workflows.

Why We Invest in Carbon

Carbon isn’t just a 3D printing company. It is changing digital manufacturing by integrating software, hardware, and materials into a unified platform. We invest in Carbon because it empowers brands with faster innovation and more intelligent scaling options. Carbon is building the future of manufacturing, combining technology, design, production and sustainability.
