Earth Day 2026 is celebrated under the theme 'Our Power, Our Planet'. This year’s theme highlights collective power of people in building a sustainable future, with a focus on empowering communities to reclaim their voice and act decisively for environmental justice. The theme reflects the urgency of reversing environmental setbacks seen in recent years and emphasises that ordinary people, not just governments or corporations, hold the power to shape sustainable futures.
The history of Earth Day begins in 1970 in response to growing public concern about pollution and environmental degradation. That inaugural Earth Day mobilised 20 million Americans. Over the following decades, Earth Day expanded beyond U.S. borders, becoming a global movement by the 1990s. Today, more than one billion people across over 190 countries participate annually, making it the largest secular civic observance in the world. This year, Earth Day carries particular weight. Rising global temperatures, biodiversity loss, and extreme weather events underscore the urgency of climate action. The year follows a period of significant environmental retrenchment, with hundreds of regulatory changes weakening protections in 2025.
At Ghazan Global, sustainability is a key pillar of our investment strategy. We believe that strategic investments can be a powerful driver of progress, and we strive to ensure that every investment contributes to building a greener, more resilient world. Our portfolio is designed to support the transition away from fossil fuel dominance and towards a system that balances meeting present needs with protecting future generations. By channelling capital into sustainable manufacturing, biopolymers and the development of the circular economy, we support innovations that reduce emissions and promote resource efficiency and clean technologies.
Additionally, our approach is firmly aligned with international sustainability frameworks, including the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. By embedding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria into our investment decisions, we ensure that our capital supports both financial growth and global climate action.
As communities all over the world mark this year’s Earth Day, Ghazan Global will continue its commitment to sustainability. Our investments create value for both people and the planet.
